In what may be good news for Steven Gerard, who has recently acquired a holiday home in the city, wealthy holidaymakers in Dubai could soon benefit from a refrigerated beach.According to a report in the Metro, fashion designer house Versace is looking into options as to how to cool the stretch of sand, perhaps using pipes under the beach or giant wind blowers (although this may wreak havoc with people’s sandwiches).

The beach is located at Versace’s Palazzo hotel, which is set to open in 2009.

An unnamed source told the newspaper: “The super rich want pure luxury. They don’t want to walk on scalding sand.”

Anyone whose budget may not stretch to customised sand could be pleased to know that Dubai does offer some more wallet-friendly options too.

In particular, shopping could be an enjoyable experience there, since its malls are tax-free and highly discounted.

The annual shopping festival will also take place from January 15th to February 15th next year.
