The owner of the Atlantis resort in Dubai has said he believes that people will still choose holidays in the Emirate city, despite the current global economic problems.

The Guardian quotes Sol Kerzner, chairman and chief executive of Kerzner International, as telling Reuters that Dubai will continue to be one of the world’s favourite holiday destinations thanks to its climate and range of exciting attractions.

“Dubai, because it’s well-connected to so many different markets, it’s probably better placed than most other destinations [to cope with the credit crunch],” he commented.

Mr Kerzner added that he still expects very good hotel occupancy rates for Atlantis in the coming months and into next year.

Atlantis officially opened on November 20th with a star-studded party and a £3 million fireworks display, bigger than that at the Beijing Olympics.

Kylie Minogue performed a special live set, while 1,000 waiters served guests with delicacies including lobster, champagne and oysters.
