Gulf Air has announced that it is to continue its sponsorship of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The carrier has been the sponsor of the event since it began in April 2004, making it the first Grand Prix in the Middle East.

Gulf Air chief executive Bjorn Naf, speaking in Shanghai, said the company is delighted to continue its affiliation with Formula One.

“Our continued alliance with this world-class event reinforces our pioneering spirit and our support of the growth and development of the Kingdom of Bahrain,” he commented.

The firm is also the sponsor for Queens Park Rangers in the UK.

Gulf Air is the flag carrier of Bahrain and operates services to over 40 destinations.

These include flights to Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore in India, as well as Johannesburg in South Africa.

Its main base is Bahrain International Airport and the aircraft can be identified by the company’s logo, a golden falcon.
