Bangkok’s growing mass transit system is making it easier to explore the whole city.
After booking cheap flights to Bangkok, you’ll no doubt be itching to explore the full length and breadth of the country’s capital city during your holiday.
Thankfully, transportation around this incredibly vibrant city is made much easier by the establishment of a growing mass transit system.
But with traffic jams occurring from time to time, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has some good tips to make sure traversing the city is as painless as possible.
It recommends the BTS elevated rail system around central Bangkok and the MRT subway line, which loops around the city. Both of these rail services are clean and safe and include clear signage in English as well as Thai, so visitors needn’t worry about getting lost in the sprawl.
If you’re planning to go beyond the areas served by these lines, TAT explains that there are plenty of air-conditioned taxis available. To avoid any language problems, it recommends you keep handy the name of your destination and accommodation written in Thai.
You’ll know which taxis are available for hire – they are the ones with a red light displaying on the left side of the windshield. As with any city or town for that matter, make sure to only use official taxis, easily recognisable in Thailand by their official markings and number plates.
