Holidaymakers are increasingly using social networks and social media sites to talk about Australian travel, it has been suggested.

Geoff Buckley, managing director of Tourism Australia, told the Australian Tourism Exchange earlier this week that sites such as Facebook and Twitter are playing a significant part in enabling those who are fans of Australia holidays to talk about their experiences.

He noted that his organisation’s Facebook page currently has over 260,000 fans and is adding nearly 1,000 new ones every day, helping to spread the word about holidays to Australia.

“Fans from the UK, Germany, Italy, France and the US are the most vocal in sharing their experiences of Australia through discussions, videos and photos from their trip,” Mr Buckley commented.

On Twitter, Tourism Australia’s @SeeAustralia account currently has almost 2,700 followers.

In April, the organisation started to integrate comments and suggestions from its Twitter followers directly into its Facebook page.
