Melbourne is set to host a series of films as part of a celebration of Indian cinema.
A festival celebrating the best of Indian cinema is to take place in Melbourne later this year.
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will open in the city on June 11th and will showcase some of the most popular productions to come out of Bollywood.
To mark the event, festival ambassador and popular Indian actress Vidya Balan will be heading to the city to promote its start.
She is a well-respected performer in India and has seen critical acclaim for her roles in films including Paa and The Dirty Picture.
Victorian premier Ted Baillieu said the festival would help to create a greater understanding between India and the state of Victoria.
“The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will offer diverse screenings in a variety of Indian languages, host prominent Indian filmmakers and screen professionals and provide an interactive programme of master classes,” Mr Baillieu added.
The festival will also be held in cities including Sydney and Wollongong.
