More people are choosing to extend their holiday in Australia.
Many people take a holiday to Sydney to discover the unique mix of great Aussie climate and culture.
However, some see it as the perfect place to start their own voyage of self discovery and use the New South Wales capital as the starting point of their backpacking holiday.
Recent figures from the Department for Immigration and Citizenship reveal that seven per cent more Australian gap year visas were issued in the 12 months to June than in the previous period, with 41,712 of them being used to people from the UK.
Tom Marvin from Much Better Adventures believes that the gap years offer something that the normal holiday struggles to deliver.
“Up until your gap year, you’re likely to have lived a relatively sheltered life at home and through school, so it may well be your first chance to break free and widen your life experiences,” said the travel expert.
