The Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory is ready to be discovered as Tourism NT states “this time of year sees the perfect conditions for exploring these great desert landscapes”.

Travelling from the historic frontier town of Alice Springs, the route follows the West MacDonnell Ranges in central Australia to Mount Sonder, which offers unbroken panoramic views.

Each day, visitors can cool off in the “picturesque” swimming holes – such as Simpsons Gap – and at night walkers camp under the stars in the Australian Outback.

The trail passes through some of the territory’s most untouched wilderness and travellers will pass though gorges, canyons, rocky outcrops and what is thought to be the oldest river bed in the world, the Finke River Gorge.

Experiencing the “beauty and grandeur” of the trail will leave visitors with a lifelong memory of central Australia, according to the Northern Territory Government.
