Travellers looking for some culture on their holiday to Australia may wish to experience the Concerts in the Caves in New South Wales.

Holidaymakers flying to Sydney have the opportunity to hear a classical music concert held in the Jenolan Caves.

The Cathedral Chamber in the caves holds performances from musicians on the third and fourth Saturdays of each month and the events last for around two hours at a time.

Events guide website WhatsOnWhen said: “The Chamber provides the ideal setting for concerts – it is known for its pure acoustics and the limestone formations provide a phenomenal backdrop.”

After the concert, a tour of the Lucas Caves is also included in the price.

The music is performed by George Mertens who on the third Saturday of the month, plays cello, but then changes to the guitar for the following week.

On the final Saturday of the month, Mr Mertens is joined by a Polish violinist and together they play dances and gypsy tunes from Russia, Spain, Hungary and Romania.

According to the event’s official website, visitors to the concerts will remember them for “years to come”.
