In a joint release, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia announced the extension of their code share agreement on flights connections to encompass additional destinations in Australia, Asia, Europe and the United Kingdom.

Codeshare Expansion for SIA and Virgin Australia

Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia have announced their code-share expansion. The two airlines will be expanding their agreement to offer flights to more destinations in Australia, Asia, Europe and the United Kingdom. With immediate effect, the codesharing has been broadened to all domestic connections of Virgin Australia, which allows patrons seeking travel tickets with SIA to book cheap flights tickets and have access to 32 cities in Australia.

The flag carrier of Singapore is also likely to further expand the code-sharing in the near future to include trans-Tasman flights between Australia and the New Zealand destinations of Dunedin, Queenstown and Wellington.

“This codeshare expansion is a major step forward in our deepening partnership. With more cities covered, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia can together offer even better connections for our customers between Singapore and Australia, as well as through our Singapore hub to many more points around the world,” SIA Executive Vice President Commercial, Mr Mak Swee Wah was quoted in the company’s press release.

In turn, Virgin Australia, in the initial months of the next year, will broaden the codeshare with SIA and will offer tickets deals for flights connections from the East Coast of Australia to Europe, the United Kingdom and more cities in Asia, via SIA’s hub. As of now, VA has codesharing on SIA flights to Europe and the United Kingdom from Adelaide, Perth and Darwin, offering tickets deals to the flyers. Altogether, VA clients will be able to book tickets to 64 destinations in Asia and 12 destinations in the European continent on the SIA and SilkAir networks from different cities in Australia.

Both carriers forayed into a comprehensive partnership last year. Apart from codesharing on flights, the agreement includes mutual frequent-flyer program benefits and lounge access to tickets buyers of both carriers. Additionally, tickets holders with both the operators enjoy coordinated schedules in order to have better experience at seamless connections provided by the carriers.
