People taking a holiday in Australia may wish to pay a visit to the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru, which have made the final of the New7Wonders of Nature campaign.

Britons heading for a holiday in Australia could get the chance to see two of the New7Wonders of Nature while on their travels.

According to Tourism Australia, Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef have now made the top 28 in the final round of the campaign.

“It’s been a stunning process to watch so many of the world’s iconic natural wonders in the public spotlight and we are delighted to see both Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef are through,” said Tia Viering, spokesperson for the New7Wonders Foundation.

The two Australian national icons are in the running to receive the accolade, which will be announced in mid-2011.

Some 441 nominations from 222 different countries across the world were entered for consideration by the panel at the start of the campaign.

Uluru is more commonly known as Ayers Rock and is a large magnetic mound located in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park in the Northern Territory, central Australia.
