Koh Samui, one of the largest islands of Thailand, is an interesting mixed bag of activities and sightseeing attractions. It is home to some of the most pristine beaches, but that is not all the island has to offer. There are lots of fascinating man-made as well as natural attractions such as Snake Farm, Ang Thong National Marine, Big Buddha Temple, and Secret Buddha Garden. Have a look at some of these top attractions.
Big Buddha Temple
The Big Buddha shrine is located on the northern shore of Koh Samui. The 12 metre high structure is perhaps the most famous landmark in Koh Samui and can be seen from the flights landing at the Samui Airport. There are a number of different shrines and other smaller figures of the Buddha here. You can also visit the market to help yourself to delicious food from local food-stalls and buy souvenirs and lucky charms.
Secret Buddha Garden
The Secret Buddha Garden is located in a somewhat concealed area in the rolling hills of Koh Samui. The garden features a unique collection of sculptures. The garden was created by an old fruit farmer from Samui, Nim Thongsuk, who had started developing various temples and statues on his family land.
Ang Thong National Marine
Situated in the Gulf of Thailand, Ang Thong National Marine Park is an immaculate archipelago of around 42 islands. The park is home to a number of waterfalls, lush mangroves, white-sandy beaches, thick forests, and mountains made out of limestone. Ang Thong National Marine is a conserved area spread over more than 100 square kilometres. It houses a large number of exotic flora and fauna, including sea creatures.
Snake Farm
Some of Asia’s most poisonous snakes are to be found here. These snakes are handled by skilled snake handlers who know how to dive, dodge and duck while dealing with the snakes. The Snake Farm is a must-visit for everyone, especially for families with kids. The farm also has scorpions and centipedes and features the spectacle of the traditional Thai Cock Fighting. These programmes are entertaining as well as instructional. There is a minimum cost for the tickets and the price is different for adults and kids.
