Hollywood film star Whoopi Goldberg is slowly overcoming her fear of flying thanks to a course organised by Virgin Atlantic.

The Sister Act star – who recently told the New York Post that she had to have a doctor present on her last flight to Britain to administer sedatives in case she panicked – opted to have the sessions while in London.

Virgin boss Richard Branson had recommended the therapy to Goldberg, which saw her chatting to a pilot and a psychologist to discuss and allay her fears.

She is soon to test the efficacy of the course, as she hopes to fly across America with the carrier to see her daughter as a surprise.

Goldberg recently chatted about her fear of flying to Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, who shares the same phobia, when she appeared on his breakfast show.

Virgin, which celebrates 25 years of flying this summer, operates flights to Sydney, Cape Town and Johannesburg, among other destinations.
