A lavish production of Ramayana’s Suek Maiyarap will be on show next month.
Travellers arriving on cheap flight to Bangkok next month may want to check out the lavish production of Ramayana’s Suek Maiyarap (The Battle of Maiyarap).
Launched by the Support Foundation, the production is laden with brilliant colour, glittering jewellery and extraordinarily detailed costumes, reported the Bangkok Post.
The mask dance performances are always a hit with audiences, which delivers a complex mix of traditional choreography and “new theatrical techniques”.
Thanpuying Charungjit Teekara, deputy secretary-general of the Support Foundation and director of this production, told the newspaper: “The most difficult scene to portray is when Hanuman magically transforms himself to cover Phra Ram’s pavilion.”
One of the reasons for the development of this production has been a “command” from Queen Sirikit to preserve “Khon” for new generations to enjoy and inherit.
The production will be on from July 15th until July 31st and will be performed by leading artists from the Office of the Music And Drama, the Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Culture, Bunditpatanasilpa Institute, and the Bangkok College of Dramatic Art.
