IMAX has signed an agreement with Major Cineplex to open five new venues in Thailand.
This means that it will be possible to screen 3D movies at specific cinemas.
Vicha Poolvaraluck, chairman of the Major Cineplex Group, commented: “There has been tremendous interest in The IMAX Experience from moviegoers in Thailand and we are focused on meeting that demand with these five theatre systems.”
The first two of these locations are expected to open in October this year, with three further cinemas due to be unveiled by the end of 2012.
At the beginning of November, the Thai capital will host the World Film Festival of Bangkok for the eighth time.
The event aims to “introduce quality, non-mainstream films from all over the world”, according to the organisers.
