Taking into account the increasing travel demand between Sri Lanka and South India, the airline is reportedly considering adding flights to a new destination in South India. As per recent news in the popular www.thehindu.com, the airline is considering to choose one city out of Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam for its new flights.
Meetings and conferences are on the cards in order to study the prospective travel demand and feasibility of starting flights, which indicates that it will not be long before the international travellers would be able to use these flights!
While Hyderabad needs no introduction, Visakhapatnam is a popular city in South India which is strongly being promoted as an international tourist destination.
SriLankan Airlines had recently enhanced its weekly flights frequency between Trivandrum in South India and Sri Lankan capital, Colombo. The airline introduced three additional weekly flights services on the route from August 30, 2012. Earlier, the carrier operated seven flights between the destinations.
The carrier has over the last year expanded its global flights network to 59 cities in 33 countries and presently operates 87 weekly flights to India including popular international tourist destinations of Bangalore, Chennai, New Delhi, Kochi, Mumbai, Trichy and Trivandrum.
Sri Lanka has seen a tremendous growth in its foreign tourist arrivals in last couple of years and many international travellers take flights to the country with connection in India. Any additional flights between the two countries are going to benefit the international tourist in a big way, both in terms of availability of seats as well as prices.
