Airline experiences record-numbers of passengers ahead of Cape Town flight launch.

Airline Etihad has had the busiest month in its five year history to date during July, ahead of expansion plans including non-stop flights to Cape Town, it has been announced.

Last month, some 616,000 passengers chose the carrier to take them to their holiday destination, with 21,640 flying with Etihad on its busiest day.

Overall, the number of passengers during July was nine per cent higher than the same time last year.

“The record-breaking passenger numbers we have experienced in July demonstrate that, despite the current economic challenges, Etihad continues to attract high volumes of traffic,” explained James Hogan, chief executive at the company.

A new service, operating direct flights to Cape Town in South Africa will begin in September.

In addition to large numbers of passengers, the carrier also managed to get 90 per cent of its planes in the air within 15 minutes of their scheduled departure time.

Those taking a holiday in Cape Town during October may wish to take in the sights of the International Kite Festival.

Kite shows performed by people from all over the world will be accompanied by workshops such as kite-making.
