Imagine an airport so amazing that it becomes a part of your ‘must-see attractions’ list. Singapore Airport is on its way to become just that. Already billed as the ‘Best Airport in the World’, it is striving to get even better with its next massive venture ‘Project Jewel’!
A colossal biosphere-style glass and steel structure that people are already calling the ‘Terminal of the future’ is soon to be constructed next to the existing Terminal 1. It is expected to be completed by 2018. Known as the Jewel Changi, the futuristic building, with a doughnut-like structure, will boast the tallest indoor waterfall in the world, gorgeous gardens, walking trails and much more. To give you a fair idea, here is a quick look at the key highlights of the Jewel Changi.
Forest Valley
Going for a hike in air-conditioned comfort and that too at the airport? Surprising as it may seem, it is soon to become a reality. Keeping the legacy of Singapore as the ‘garden city’ intact, one of the most important features of Jewel Changi will be the Forest Valley, which will have thousands of trees, shrubs, and ferns. It is going to be a five-storeyed garden, where visitors will be able to enjoy outdoor activities in the comfort of an indoor environment.
Rain Vortex
One of its kind and truly a marvel, Rain Vortex will be the tallest indoor waterfall in the world. Cascading through the centre of the building, Rain Vortex will also feature a light and sound show at night.
Canopy Park
To be stretched across about 13,000 square metres, Canopy Park will be on the top level of the building. The park will feature gardens with walking trails, playgrounds and eateries to offer the visitors an ideal atmosphere to relax and unwind.
Gateway Gardens
Jewel Changi will also feature four different gateway gardens. The north, east and west gateway gardens will lead to Terminal 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Each garden will be designed with unique landscape elements.
Dining
The complex will consist of about 90 food and drink outlets. Visitors will not only get to relish various flavours of the east and the west; they will also get to enjoy delightful views.
Shopping
Jewel Changi will house more than 200 shops that will include several renowned international brands. Shopaholics will never complain about waiting at the airport.
Jewel’s Own Hotel
Adding to the list of the state-of-the-art facilities, a world class hotel will also be constructed. The hotel will be operated by YOTEL and is likely to have at least 130 rooms with all the latest amenities.
