Virgin Atlantic has designed and launched an application for the iPhone and iPod touch to help people with a fear of flying remain calm on an aeroplane.
It provides relaxation and breathing exercises as well as offering a video explanation of the flight process. It also features a personal introduction from Sir Richard Branson.
The president of Virgin Atlantic said: “The app will put many travellers at ease and enable them to prepare for their first Virgin Atlantic flight.”
Based upon the airline’s Flying Without Fear courses, which it claims succeeds in 98 per cent of cases, Virgin is expecting the application to be popular.
Anxiety about the noises made by a plane to the fear of losing control are addressed through the application.
Flying Without Fear was developed in its latest form in conjunction with a company that specialises in development of mobile applications to improve lives through the resolution of problems and enhanced mental performance.
Mental Workout utilises the expertise of psychotherapist Stephen Bodian and insomnia specialist Dr Gregg D Jacobs.
