Anyone planning to travel on one of the luxury trains in India will now have access to live TV, it has been announced.

People who have booked flights to India with the intention of taking a luxury train journey across parts of the country will now find that they can keep up with news from the rest of the world during their journey.

Asian Lite reported that several luxury train services in the country have now been fitted with live TV equipment for passengers to use.

The news provider noted that this is the first time that satellite technology has been used on trains in India to provide this kind of live entertainment.

Currently, two trains offer this facility – Palace on Wheels and Royal Rajasthan on Wheels.

Pramod Sharma, general manager at the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corp, told the news agency that passengers have been “pleasantly surprised” to find the service on the trains.

“They are enjoying IPL and English Premier League matches on the move,” he added.

In other Indian railway news, it was announced earlier this week that an additional service between Kalka and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh will operate during the holiday season.
