Scotland’s first minister is planning a trip to India to attend the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

Scotland’s first minister is planning a trip to India to attend the ongoing Commonwealth Games.Alex Salmond is also expected to announce plans to strengthen ties between Scotland and India with the development of new tourism and business opportunities.The minister is likely to take a trip to the Commonwealth Games village to meet with Scotland’s athletic team and watch the closing ceremony on Thursday.

Mr Salmond believes that due to its large Asian community, Scotland has a strong connection with India.

He explained: “Food, the arts, business and religious tolerance and diversification have all benefited enormously from the 35,000 Indian people who call Scotland home.

“As an emerging global economic power, India is an essential partner for Scotland.”

Meanwhile, a VisitScotland delegation is planning to meet with tourist officials in New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai over the coming week to discuss the promotion of links between the two countries. VisitScotland has already held talks with airlines that offer flights to India such as Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines.
