Air India’s new “Senior Citizen Companion Fare” allows two travellers, age 62 or more, who are flying together, to save a minimum of $1,300 each on published roundtrip Executive Class fares on flights to India.

Indian flag carrier, Air India has announced a new “Senior Citizen Companion Fare,” which enables two seniors to save big money on roundtrip flights to Delhi or Mumbai.

The new scheme allows two senior passengers, each 62 years of age or older, travelling together on the same flight to save at least $1,300 off on published round trip Executive Class tickets on flights to India.

As per the airline’s website, the offer is valid on Air India non-stop flights to Delhi from John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport to Mumbai, or Chicago O’Hare International Airport to Delhi and return.

Air India’s special round trip fares start at $3,394 per individual, including all taxes, airport and security fees, and fuel surcharges (as per airline website). For senior travelling companions who wish to travel beyond Delhi or Mumbai, Air India is providing connections to more than 50 other major cities throughout India at special add-ons, plus additional taxes.

Terms & Conditions

Travelling companions seeking cheap flights to India deals under the new scheme must be aware of the fact that the offer applies to transatlantic travel Monday through Thursday in both directions, with travel commencing on or before October 15, 2012.

These cheap flight tickets to India must be purchased by September 30th. The minimum duration of stay in India is 21 days and the maximum stay is 6 months, and both passengers are required to travel together on the same outbound and return flights.

The state owned carrier has also mentioned certain blackout periods when the travel is not permitted with “Senior Citizen Companion Fare.” Travel is not permitted eastbound from June 1 to August 12, 2012; or westbound from August 1 to September 12, 2012 and from December 20, 2012 to January 30, 2013.

Tickets sold under the new scheme are refundable, minus a cancellation fee of $500 per passenger. Refunds are given only when both tickets are submitted simultaneously.

Travellers who want to get their travelling date changed can do so by paying a fee of $500 per traveller, plus any fare differential. Date changes are allowed only when tickets of both travellers are submitted at the same time.

Air India’s “Senior Citizen Companion Fare” deal offers no refund for no-shows. Only date changes are allowed within the validity. Travellers looking for date changes beyond the validity period will be required to cough up applicable difference in fare.
