Qatar Airways has scooped two top awards at a ceremony held in London, it has emerged.

Professionals in the travel industry voted the carrier to be the Middle East’s leading business class airline, as well as having the region’s leading airline lounge for its facilities at Doha International Airport, at the World Travel Awards.

Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways chief executive officer, said the company was thrilled with the recognition.

“Winning these two awards just goes to prove that, once again, Qatar Airways is seen by the travel industry as the preferred airline in the Middle East for frequent corporate travellers,” he commented.

Qatar Airways currently operates flights to South Africa, Europe, North America and the Middle East.

It recently announced that it has ordered three new Boeing 777 aircraft which should arrive by the end of 2008 and which it expects to provide additional services and convenience for passengers.
