Cheap flights to Egypt have resulted in holidaymakers taking long-weekend breaks to the country.
Travellers are beginning to take long-weekend holidays to Egypt, according to the Egyptian State Tourist Office.
The increased number of cheap flights to the country has allegedly resulted in British tourists taking long-weekend breaks as well as week-long holidays in Egypt.
A spokeswoman for the tourist office emphasised that longer trips were still more popular but commented that the market is beginning to open up.
She said: “There is continuing interest in Egypt as a worthy holiday destination from classical tours, traditional resort-style holidays and even long weekends both to Cairo and the Red Sea.”
Sharm el Sheikh recently came third in a poll of the most popular places to travel to this half term. The Co-operative Travel, who carried out the research, revealed that bookings to the Egyptian resort were up by 142 per cent compared to the same time last year.
The Egyptian State Tourist Office also commented that many of the activities on offer in the Red Sea resort were affordable, particularly for families.
