Dubai has announced plans to create the world’s biggest airport passenger airport, which will have five runways.

People taking flights to Dubai in the future could find they are landing at the world’s biggest airport.

The emirate has announced plans to construct the largest passenger terminal on the planet, with five runways planned for the site.

Named the Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International, the site opened last June for cargo flights, but it is hoped it that passenger flights will begin there is 2013.

The airport forms part of Dubai World Central, which on completion will be a super complex of commercial, residential and logistics.

It is though that the airport will be able to handle as many as 160 passengers a year by 2035.

The development will also provide more space for Dubai’s Emirates airline to house to its growing fleet of planes.

Passengers travelling on flights to Dubai who are planning to attend the Dubai Airshow will be among those visiting the Dubai World Central from 2013 onwards, as the site will become the new home of the event.
