An award for the world’s most admired airline has been given to Continental for the sixth year in a row.

The accolade came from Fortune magazine and was based on criteria such as quality of services, people management, innovation and social responsibility.

Larry Kellner, Continental chief executive, said the achievement came as a result of the effort of the carrier’s 42,000 staff.

“They have shown once again that they are the best team in the airline industry,” he added.

Continental scored 7.71 in the magazine’s survey, followed by Air France-KLM Group with 7.15. It was ranked among the top ten companies in all industries in addition to this achievement.

Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa and Delta all also scored highly.

Continental is the world’s fifth largest airline and was also recently named best airline for North America in the Skytrax 2008 World Airline Awards.

The carrier was set up in 1934 and today serves 135 domestic and 132 international destinations.
