Anyone travelling to Sydney may want to visit the city’s fish market after its redevelopment.
People who have booked flights to Sydney may not initially think of the city’s fish market as one of the top tourist attractions but each year more than 3.5 million people visit it.
Now the New South Wales government has backed a scheme to renovate the market and is providing AU$20 million (£12.14 million) towards the project.
This amount will be matched by the Sydney Fish Market.
Work on the site will involve increasing the amount of retail, wholesale and parking space, as well as making improvements to the surrounding area.
Tourists who visit the market following its revamp will be able to take advantage of a new park, boardwalk and outdoor dining area.
In addition to selling all manner of delicacies from the seas, the market also offers advice to consumers about which seafood to purchase and even runs cookery classes to ensure that visitors get the best from their fish.
