The city will host a number of major international matches over the next decade.
Rugby fans may be tempted to book flights to Brisbane over the coming months and years thanks to a major new agreement between the Australian Rugby Union and the Queensland government.
Under the ten-year deal, the state will become the country’s “heartland” for international rugby union, with numerous high-profile games set to take place at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.
The venue will stage a Bledisloe Cup Test between the Wallabies and New Zealand every time the three-game campaign takes place in Australia, as well as the opening match of every series against a northern hemisphere team.
Suncorp has also been chosen to host one of three Tests between Australia and the British & Irish Lions in 2013.
Queensland premier Anna Bligh said: “These matches will draw visitors from interstate and internationally – that’s great for the tourism industry and the jobs it supports.”
On Saturday (July 9th), Suncorp Stadium was the venue for the 2011 Super Rugby Final, which saw the Queensland Reds run out 18-13 winners over the Crusaders.
