Lufthansa will be offering Wi-Fi on board its India bound flights. Passengers booking air tickets in any of travel classes would enjoy broadband during their flights between Germany and India.
India bound travellers opting for Lufthansa for their flights tickets will now have the convenience of staying connected on-board as the flag carrier of Germany have started offering Wi-Fi broadband as a paid service in-flight.
The German carrier is one of the first airlines offering India flights to do so.
Passengers booking flights tickets with the carrier, irrespective of the travel class, will be able to browse the Internet on their laptops and tablets.
The airline hopes to extend the services to the mobiles by the year end, allowing passengers taking air tickets for flights to text message and transfer data.
In India, Lufthansa will offer services on four flight routes – Delhi-Munich, Mumbai-Frankfurt, Mumbai-Munich and Chennai-Frankfurt. Those wishing to use the services for one hour will have to pay an additional 10.95 Euros along with the cost of air tickets. For 24 hours, passengers will have to pay 19.95 Euros. The service can be extended to lounges and long-haul flights of the carrier.
More airline operators offering flights tickets to the different cities of India are expected to join Lufthansa in offering in-flight Internet to the patrons. Numerous aircraft from the latest Airbus fleet feature this facility. However, the want of regulatory clearances from authorities in India is stopping them from providing this service in the flights.
“OnAir wi-fi is available on the entire fleet of A380 aircraft on all Emirates routes, except that to mainland China,” Patrick Brannelly, VP (Communication), Emirates was quoted in TOI, a leading daily in India. “However, the service will not operate until regulatory approval is obtained from countries like India, China and the US,” he continued.
