This is according to Olivia Sterns of CNN, who said that South Africa is not the ultimate holiday spot for such pursuits, especially as the 2010 Fifa World Cup approaches.
Cape Town is also to play host to the Twenty20 cricket tournament, the British and Irish Lions tour and sailing’s Clipper Round-the-World Challenge.
Calvyn Gilfellan, spokesperson for Cape Town’s tourist board, said: “We are lucky to be in such a wonderful spot. The fact that we have a positive exchange rate also helps us a lot as a destination.”
Indeed, the positive exchange rate between the rand and the pound may be a deciding factor in people choosing to go on more holidays to South Africa.
In a recent poll by M&S Money, 36 per cent of people from the UK said this is something they take into account in a bid to save money on their breaks.
