Malaysia Airlines Adds Kochi Flights to its India Network

Malaysia Airlines has announced the launch of new flight services to India. From September 1, 2013, the airline is going to offer daily flights to Kochi, India’s popular tourist hub in the province of Kerala.

In a bid to expand its network and to offer more options to fliers seeking tickets, Malaysia Airlines has decided to operate daily flights to Kochi, India from Kuala Lumpur from September 1, 2013.

This new route will be the operator’s sixth to India. Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai are the others.

Kochi is the key gateway to Kerala, one of India’s top tourist destinations. The southern state of the country is renowned for its backwaters, beaches and Ayurvedic treatments, and remains in the priority list most leisure vacationers booking flight tickets for India travel.

As per media reports, the route will be operated by the Malaysian carrier using the 160-seater B737-800.

MAS’ Regional Senior Vice President, South Asia & Middle East, Azahar Bin Hamid said that the growing competition and rising demand for air tickets in the market has led the operator to include new destinations and boost the frequency of its flights.

“Kochi is a strong market for us and we see it as a relevant destination to add to our overall network,” he said.

Along with introducing new flight services to India, MAS has also announced the launch of promotional fares for those booking tickets with economy class and business class. The move is likely to bring smiles on the faces of travellers who hunt for relatively cheap bargain deals for their flight tickets.

The carrier presently runs 54 weekly flights from India to Malaysia.
