Weather is a crucial factor to consider while booking flights to Egypt. This sizzling tourist destination has many charms and there are different times for experiencing these charms. Read on for when to visit what in Egypt.

Weather remains one of the most important factors behind any travel decision. The same holds true for the Middle Eastern tourism hub of Egypt. While the peak season time for booking airline tickets is usually during the winter months of November to February, the off season summer months prove to be good for landing cheap airline tickets. However, summers can prove to be too taxing for checking out Cairo or the other wonders of Egypt. In the coastal areas, the average minimum winter summer temperature is about 14° C, while the average maximum summer temperature is about of 30° C. The inland desert areas exhibit wide temperature variations, especially during summers. Temperatures can even fluctuate from a brutal 43° C during the day to a nippy 7° C at night. In the desert regions, temperatures can oscillate from 18° C during the day to 0° C at night.

Best Time to Cruise the Nile

The best time for catching flights to Egypt for a Nile cruise is from October to April. Although, a Nile cruise means travellers often have to leave ship for exploring the different ports of call, the weather is not brutally hot during this time. One of the best cruise routes is from Aswan to Luxor. However, both these places face extreme heat and travellers should avoid visiting between the intense summer months June and August, unless they are looking for cheap flights to Egypt and other summer discounts. The average temperature is about 40 °C and the heat gets all the more overbearing inside the famous tombs around Luxor. The months of April and June can also play spoilsport as these are the months when a series of locks take effect on the Nile. This affects one’s chances of reaching Esna by boat as crossing the locks by boat takes hours. One loses valuable time waiting in a huge queue of ships to get through.

A Trip during Ramadan

A Trip during Ramadan is likely to prove quite cheap in terms of expenditure. Ramadan is the holy month of fasting amongst Muslims and every year the date of the occasion changes. For instance, Ramadan is expected to last from 1st August to 30th August in 2011 and 20th July to 19th August in 2012. Shops and other commercial establishments close for a longer duration during the days, while the nights are full of festivities as devotees break their fast. Iftaar parties are held and everyone is encouraged to gorge on kebabs and other specially prepared mouth-watering delicacies. During the days, anyone looking for food or booze will have to rely upon hotel room service or at least in some establishment, which is out of the public eye. Towards the end of Ramadan, festivities reach a crescendo and there is a general air of merry making. Ramadan also remains an excellent time for bagging cheap flights to Egypt and other Middle Eastern destinations as tourism is not at its peak during Ramadan.

Perfect Time to Visit the Red Sea

A beach vacation on the Red Sea coast prompts many visitors to catch flights to Egypt. The best time for such a vacation is the period between June and September. The water is balmy, while the breeze is refreshingly cool. The crowds are also quite sparse. Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh, and other Red Sea resort towns emerge as red hot winter getaways. This is all the more true for Eastern European and Russian tourists who come to the Red Sea to dodge their bitterly cold winters. The summer months prove to be busy to as the schools break up for vacations and the water is warm. Naturally, families arrive in hordes to fill up resorts like Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh. The weather of the Red Sea resorts can be compared to Aswan with the difference that the Red Sea area is usually a little cooler during summers and warmer during winters. During the winter months of November to February the average temperature is about 25 °C, while the average temperature during the summer months of May to October is about 30 °C.

When to Visit the Western Desert Region of Egypt

Travel to the Western Desert Region of Egypt is best attempted from October to February. However, the nights tend to be rather cold during this period. Anyone planning to visit during March and April should be careful of the infamous hot spring wind of Egypt. This wind blows throughout the country and is known as the Sirocco and Khamsin by Europeans and Egyptians respectively. These winds carry sand dust particles and can rage at speeds of 140 km/hr and push up temperatures by as high as 20° C within a couple of hours. Khamsin, which can continue for days, has been known to cause illnesses and can impact the region as far East as Cairo.
