Hong Kong National Day

The Hong Kong National Day signifies the foundation and establishment of the People’s Republic of China. Hong Kong has celebrated it since 1997 – the year the territory was passed on to China. The Chinese community looks forward to the events of this day such as flag-raising ceremony, awe-inspiring parades, and spectacular fireworks.

Chung Yeung Festival

Held on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, the Chung Yeung Festival is a time when families get together at cemeteries and worship their ancestors. This is an age-old practise going back to thousands of years. While it is a memorial day, it is also a day of outing and picnicking. People eat a special cake called ‘ko’.  The Chinese consume it in the hope of being promoted to higher ranks.

Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival

Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival is so magnificent that it’s been named by ForbesTraveler as one of the top 10 international food and wine festivals. Last year, 144,000 locals and visitors from different parts of the world took part in the four-day event. As the name suggests, this fiesta allows one to explore more than 400 booths offering wines, single malts, and innovative cocktails.

Hong Kong International Literary Festival

Held for 10 days, the Hong Kong International Literary Festival celebrates well-established and emerging writers on a global level. As per the official website, there are discussions, literary lunches and dinners, workshops, lectures, debates, book signings, and readings. In the past few years, notable personalities such as Seamus Heaney, Louis de Bernières, Colm Tóibín, Jung Chang have graced the occasion with their presence.

Clockenflap

Clockenflap is ‘Hong Kong’s largest and longest-running outdoor music and arts festival’. Over the years, this fest has played host to top-notch talents such as New Order, The Libertines, A$AP Rocky, and Primal Scream. Though music is the main element of this fiesta, there are stages and areas exclusively for films, visual art, performance art, arts & crafts, and family fun. Clockenflap is any artist’s paradise!
