A new road in Chennai should be completed next spring, after a series of setbacks.

Travellers taking flights to Chennai could be able to use a new road if they arrive in the area next spring as the completion date has been confirmed.

The new four lane road will span 1.6 km and will run to Chennai Port, with the most recent predictions for a completion date stated to be April 2012, the Hindu reported.

So far, the road has missed deadlines in October 2010 and January 2012 after it was hit by issues ranging from floods to local elections.

“There is some progress and it would be inaugurated by April. I will be conducting one more review meeting with the Chennai Trade Co-ordination Committee members in the next few days,” speaker Jayakumar told the newspaper.

Some people could be planning to take flights to Chennai soon after it was announced that Air India is planning to start a series of new routes from Delhi.
