Holidaymakers taking flights to Australia or other long-haul destinations should consider using prepaid credit cards during their trip.

According to Kevin Harrington, managing director at Global Prepaid Exchange, the use of a prepaid credit card could help to improve security and can be more convenient.

“The most exposure is the total amount on the card not [what is in] your current account,” he explained.

Mr Harrington added: “The exciting thing from a traveller’s point of view is that, if you lose the card you can stop it, and you’re supplied with a free emergency card straight away.”

Research published earlier by Global Prepaid Exchange revealed that prepaid credit cards are set to prove popular with travellers over the next year and could offer many holidaymakers with an alternative payment method to traditional travellers cheques and cash.
