American Airlines has scooped a top award for passenger services, it has emerged. The carrier won Best Airline for Domestic First Class for the third year running in a poll carried out by Global Traveler magazine.

Kurt Stache, vice-president and general sales manager at American Airlines, said he was thrilled with the accolade, which came after more than 31,400 business and leisure travellers were asked their opinions.

“This recognition reflects the commitment from American’s employees to provide our domestic first class customers with a positive travel experience,” he commented.

The award will be presented at an official ceremony in Los Angeles next month.

American Airlines last month announced that it is trialling a scheme which enables customers to bypass paper boarding passes in favour of a barcode which is sent to their mobile phone and then scanned at security.

The carrier claims to serve around 94 million passengers each year, serving 250 cities in 40 countries.
