In a boost to its operations to both Indonesia and Australia, Singapore Airlines will launch a new route connecting Jakarta with Sydney while also enhancing Singapore-Jakarta flight frequency.
The new flight will start from 23 November 2016, subject to regulatory approvals, and will be operated with a Boeing 777 aircraft.
As per the airline’s press release, the new Singapore-Jakarta-Sydney route will be served three times per week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Flights will leave Singapore at 20:15 and land in Jakarta at 21:00. Onward flights from Jakarta will take off at 22:25 and land at the Sydney airport at 09:30 the next day. Return flights from Sydney will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. They will leave Sydney at 11:00 and arrive in Jakarta at 14:35. Further, flights will take off from Jakarta at 15:35 and arrive in Singapore at 18:10. All times are local.
Singapore Airlines is also adding eight new weekly flights between Singapore and Jakarta. Four of them will leave Singapore at 13:50 and arrive in Jakarta at 14:35, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Return flights will depart Jakarta at 15:35 and arrive in Singapore at 18:10. The other four flights will take off from Singapore at 20:15 and land in Jakarta at 21:00, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. For the return journey, flights will depart Jakarta at 22:25 and arrive in Singapore at 01:10, the next day.
Singapore Airlines’ Senior Vice President Marketing Planning, Mr Tan Kai Ping said: “Indonesia and Australia are already among the most popular destinations in our route network. As a result of healthy demand, we are pleased to be able to offer even more travelling choices with these new Jakarta and Sydney flights.”
With 63 weekly round-trip services, Singapore-Jakarta is already the busiest route in the airline’s wide network, in terms of flight frequency. With extra flights, SIA will operate 71 weekly round-trip flights between Singapore and Jakarta. And including the three flights that will operate on Singapore-Jakarta-Sydney route, Jakarta will be served with 74 weekly flights.
Sydney is another key destination in Singapore Airlines’ route network, with 31 weekly flights to and from Singapore. The launch of new flights via Jakarta will boost the weekly frequency on the route to 34.
