People from the UK are increasingly looking for special destinations they can head to on their holidays in order to experience new things.

This is according to a survey carried out by Holiday Extras, which found that 48 per cent of respondents intend to do something really memorable this year, while 31 per cent said they hope to discover a destination completely new to them.

Mike Whiting, managing editor at the firm, said: “With the pound currently weak against both the dollar and the euro, it is perhaps no surprise that many people are looking to new and different destinations.”

The news follows comments from Association of Independent Tour Operators representative Kate Kenward earlier this month, who said that long haul holidays are becoming increasingly achievable thanks to the rate of the euro and the fact that people are more aware that they are no longer limited to package holidays in Europe.

Holidays to South Africa or Australia could be ideal for travellers hoping to experience new things.
