People in Abu Dhabi have been treated to a fantastic light show as part of the National Day celebrations.

Travellers taking flights to Abu Dhabi in order to celebrate National Day could be in for a treat if the first evening of events is anything to go by.

To mark the date, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was lit up by a stunning display of images which celebrated the emirate’s heritage, the National reported.

Images seen on the front of the stunning building included floral patterns, Arabian shapes and a display of the moon cycles, which are followed by the Islamic calendar.

Talal Al Mazrouei, the director of events and activities at the mosque, said work had been taking place since last month.

“The last scene is very important because it shows that the mosque welcomes all cultures and religions around the world,” he said.

People interested in the arts could decide to take flights to Abu Dhabi, as the emirate recently stated that its annual art fair was growing in size.
