Dubai-based carrier Emirates has announced that it is to introduce new flights to Melbourne and Brisbane with immediate effect.

The services will be provided using A340-500 aircraft, which feature mood-lighting to help prevent jet lag and could be particularly useful for people in the UK.

Richard Vaughan, spokesperson for Emirates Airlines, said he was delighted to announce the extra capacity for passengers to Australia, after having launched new flights to Sydney earlier in 2009.

“Our flights will assist in increasing inbound tourist arrivals and support the Australian government’s plans of developing these two cities as leading centres for tourism,” he added.

The new services bring the total number of flights to Australia Emirates offers to 63 and they are currently being promoted in the UK as part of a large-scale advertising campaign.

Last month, Emirates was named the best airline flying to the Middle East and Asia, Africa and Australasia at the Globe Travel Awards in London.
