The spectacle will be held to welcome international students to the city.

Music fans who have embarked on cheap flights to Melbourne this week may be keen to attend a free city-centre event aimed at welcoming international students to the city.

The Lord Mayor’s Semester Two Student Welcome, set to take place on Saturday (July 30th), will involve a Lady Gaga-themed fashion show, African drumming demonstrations and bush dancing.

Clothes from local designers Worn Wild, GeoMythink, Fashion Ninja and more will be showcased at the free celebration, which will be held at City Square.

Future Melbourne committee chair Kevin Louey said almost 30,000 international students live and study in Melbourne, adding it is important they feel welcome and safe as soon as they arrive.

“This event gives us the opportunity to tell students about the many free services and activities the city of Melbourne has on offer,” he remarked.

City Square, on the corner of Swanston and Collins streets, is just a short walk from landmarks such as St Paul’s Cathedral and Federation Square.
