Salman Rushdie has announced he is to attend a conference taking place in Delhi.

Salman Rushdie has announced he is to attend a conference in Delhi to discuss literary works.

The esteemed author has been a controversial figure in India since the publication of his work The Satanic Verses, but he is planning to visit the city to attend the discussion on March 16th.

He will attend the discussion entitled The Liberty Verses during the India Today Conclave, which is being hosted by the media group, alongside writer Aatish Taseer.

It comes after a planned visit earlier in the year to the Jaipur Literary Festival was cancelled following protests.

The two-day festival at the Taj Palace hotel in the city will see a number of other noted names attending, including Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor and former US diplomat Henry Kissinger.

Other discussions taking place across the festival include exploring what it takes for athletes to achieve an Olympic gold medal and which companies will see the greatest success in the age of the internet.
