A new survey has revealed that people in the UK are increasingly turning to internet companies in order to book their holidays.
The poll, carried out on behalf of the Association of British Travel Agents, found that 57 per cent of people booked their last holiday online, compared to the 27 per cent who booked face-to-face with a travel agent.
Surprisingly, it was also discovered that 25 to 44-year-olds were most likely to do so, with 68 per cent having booked their last holiday via the internet.
It could be that this is due to the growing importance of feedback from other travellers, with over half of internet holiday bookers rating this as important in their choice of destination.
Figures published in the Centurion Luxury Living Index 2008 show that 66 per cent of holidaymakers, including those booking over the internet, are now seeking secluded destinations to take them off the beaten track.
Anyone seeking a private resort could consider booking flights to Thailand, where holidaymakers can enjoy scenery made famous in the film The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
