Abu Dhabi heading for a record year

Hotels in Abu Dhabi welcomed 12 per cent more guests in May this year compared to 2011.

Figures released by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) show that these 192,374 guests stayed for a total of 542,567 guest nights – itself an increase of seven per cent on the previous year.

Guest spend has also increased, with food and beverage totalling Dhs 151.3 million (£26.2 million) – a month-on-month rise of 14 per cent – while the number of rooms available has increased by 13 per cent in the past year.

“By offering a range of discounted activities and family-orientated entertainment programmes, we are providing more incentives to guests to visit the emirate and stay for longer,” said HE Mubarak Al Muhairi, director general of TCA Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi is currently ranked fourth on the MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index for growth and is expected to experience an overall increase in visitors of 17.9 per cent this year.
