People about to head off for a winter break, including those on holidays to Thailand, have again been warned not to forget their travel insurance and told they should see it as a vital part of their holiday planning.

British Insurance Brokers’ Association spokesperson Graeme Trudgill said that people should continue to buy policies, credit crunch or not.

“The thing about travel insurance is you get ever such a lot for not much money,” he pointed out.

This includes baggage, medical, cancellation and liability cover, which the expert argued Britons cannot afford to be without if they wish to avoid expensive medical and repatriation charges should they suffer illness or injury abroad.

“Certainly seek out a travel insurance policy if you are going on holiday,” he concluded.

Anyone considering renting a bike while on holidays to Thailand – a popular cause of holiday insurance claims, according to the Foreign Office – should remember that a Thai driving licence or an international driving permit is needed to do so.

Travel insurance will be invalid if such a license is not obtained, Amazing Thailand attests.
