Cheap Flights to Pakistan to climb-K2

K2 is a majestic peak that is magnificent to look at and appeals to climbers and trekkers of many abilities. Also known as Mount Godwin Austen, this mountain is second only to Nepal’s Mount Everest in terms of height. K2 is located in the Karakoram Range, partly in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and partly in the area of Kashmir administered by the Chinese. K2 is 8,611 metres above sea level, or 28,251 feet tall.

Trekking in mountainous regions is extremely popular and the trek to the K2 base camp is a breath-taking experience, winding through rugged terrain and across glaciers and a range of other high peaks.

Of course, before you attempt to trek to base camp or climb the mountain itself, you need to be prepared by choosing the right time of year for your travel, by being fit and learning any skills you need, and by obtaining the right kind of gear and outdoor clothing to make your trip a pleasurable one. You will probably need to camp and will need appropriate trekking gear. Tents may be pitched on rocks, or ice or both. Trekkers will probably need a warm mattress to keep out the cold, and a high-performance sleeping bag, plus other essential equipment to make your trip as comfortable as possible.

The weather in this part of the world is usually snowy and extremely cold and much of the time it’s not possible to visit K2. July and August are generally considered to be the best months for visiting K2 as the weather is warmer and generally more stable. Of course, with only two months of the year in which K2 is accessible, you will invariably need to book in advance. The skies will generally be clear in this period, which is important because you want to make the most of the spectacular scenery.

However, if you can’t get there in July or August, the general trekking season to K2 base camp is a little longer, extending between mid-June to mid-September. Outside of these three months, there is generally too much snow to make approaching the mountain feasible. Anyone visiting K2 should always be prepared for changeable mountain weather – freezing conditions and snow can happen at any moment when you are this high up. The trek to K2 usually starts from a village called Askole and takes around two weeks.

You will also need a permit to trek to or climb K2. Following the pandemic, there has been a surge in applications for K2 permits, so make sure you plan ahead. There are a number of factors that foreigners wishing to make this trip should know about. First of all, you will need to apply for a permit through NADRA, Pakistan’s official portal for visas. Foreigners may need a visa to enter Pakistan as well. Most travellers will also require a licensed mountain guide for their journey and will need an NOC, or No Objection Certificate, which is obtainable from the Skardu tourism office in Pakistan.
