According to Brand Republic, the three minute slots will be filled with brands that the public are likely to recognise as epitomising the UK through their past and present campaigns, including Virgin Atlantic and Hovis, Brand Republic reveals.

Indeed, Virgin Atlantic is currently in the limelight thanks to its popular 25-year anniversary ads, which celebrate all things 80s.

Air hostesses are seen walking through an airport where passengers are tucking into Wimpy burgers, playing with Rubik’s cubes and talking on enormous mobile phones.

The airline’s official birthday falls on June 22nd 2009.

“You can count on Virgin Atlantic to raise spirits with some of our lowest fares ever and look into the future with optimism as we did 25 years ago,” said Steve Ridgway, chief executive of the airline.

Virgin Atlantic offers a number of long haul services from the UK, including flights to Sydney, Cape Town and Mumbai.
