Travel Counsellors states that couples are now choosing resorts that are off the beaten track, where they will be able to chill out in each others company, as well as being able to show off the holiday photos when they get home.
It states that while traditional beach-side favourites will always have a place, less well-known destinations – where people can enjoy cultural experiences and will be able to see an authentic glimpse of the country – are rising to prominence.
The news follows recent comments from Abta’s Frances Tuke, who said that travellers in general are becoming more inspired when it comes to choosing where to spend their two weeks abroad.
She put this down to the credit crunch and people wanting to get away from everyday worries about money and work.
