Record entries for Phuket triathlon

The triathlon is due to begin this weekend.

 People getting off flights to Phuket this week might want to head out to watch the 2011 Laguna Phuket Triathlon, which is taking place on Sunday (November 27th).

According to the Phuket Wan Entertainment News, more than 1,000 people have entered the event – the first time this has happened in the 18-year history of the race.

In all, the Race of Legends will welcome 1,078 athletes from 41 nations to the starting line, including Katje Rabe from Germany, Frederick Croneberg of Sweden and Edith Niederfriniger and Alberto Cassadei of Italy.

Sports fans coming into the country on flights to Phuket may well find that this is the highlight of their entire holiday. They will have to get up early, however, as the race begins at 06:30 local time with a swim at Bang Tao Beach.

Another event that might be of interest to holidaymakers is the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, taking place on Kata Beach between December 3rd and 10th.
