Le Quartier Francais has been named the best restaurant in Africa and the Middle East.

Travellers have been given another incentive to book flights to South Africa when Le Quartier Francais was named the best restaurant in Africa and the Middle East as part of the San Pellegrino World’s Best Restaurants.

Helmed by the Dutch-born chef Margot Janse, the restaurant made a name for itself with her nine-course meal based on African-inspired recipes and served with regional wines.

“We like to keep things simple, but exceptional, and we pride ourselves on our reputation for warm, world class service – and the little touches that make the difference,” reads a statement on the restaurant’s website.

Le Quartier Francais aspires to be totally authentic to South Africa and aims to use 100 per cent locally sourced ingredients.

The herbs and spices used by Ms Janse mostly come from the restaurant’s own gardens.

Australia’s Quay was also recently awarded the title of best restaurant in Australasia by the same group, which praised its “dazzling array of dishes”.
